As Community Outreach Chair for Knight’s Landing One Health Center, a UC Davis student-run free clinic, Zuleica discovered her passion to improve health disparities in rural populations. She helped improve access to healthcare and transportation for the clinic’s patients as liaison to the farmworker community. While working as a research assistant in a psychiatry lab investigating depression in older Latinos, she studied the importance of raising mental health awareness and offering corresponding resources to cultures with stigmatized mental health. Zuleica hopes that her MPH will help her ameliorate health care access and quality for rural populations.
